Stem mounted shifter

Hi all, just trying to spruce up a lady's Dawes Street Life. All round it seems to be a nice little reynolds framed town/sports bike. The boss is looking for me to make it sportier still so to start with drop bars are in order. Thing is that it currently has a thumb shifter I am thinking that a stem mounted shifter is in order, any thoughts? It is a six speed which should narrow things down a bit!

Stem mounted shifters used to be available, might find a little dangerous with drops though.

Make a mess of a chin!

Roadking.

Was thinking of something like this...

although...

I am thinking this could be an option as she has always used sit up and beg style bars up to now so it could be a bit of a jump to drops (and I have a spare bar end shifter kicking about)

Stem mounted shifters have a bad safety reputation. A friend of mine ended up having a hole in his scrotum stitched up after a spill over the bars.

Enough said. The bar-ends sound a much better idea - or thumbshifters perhaps?

I've just removed a stem shifter from an old raleigh mixte - it's a Sachs Huret one, and used to shift a rear mech over a 5 speed block.

Yours if you want it......

Safety wise, i'd imagine a stem mounted shifter would be alright for a lady - apart from the Thai versions, they don't tend to have scrotii.

i would imagine it would.......

pm me your address and i'll drop it in the post for free.

I'll throw in the band on cable stop that goes with it too.
