Steerers

The threaded section is a smaller diameter than non threaded. You can use an ahead stem on a threaded fork if you use an adapter that replaces the quill stem that would normally be used.
 
Some people have said you can use an ahead stem on a threaded steerer, but why would you risk it. If it doesn't fail, at minimum the threads will eat into your stem and may cause a failure as it's not designed to be bolted to many sharp, pointy threads but a nice smooth steerer.

Plenty of correct forks for the job out there, use the right tool for the job imo.
