Steerer tube measurement?

Hi All,

I need to buy a steerer/crown or fork for my bike, but what is the size of my steerer? Does anyone know the correct method for measuring the steerer tube inside, outside diameter etc..?

It's the outside diameter where the stem fits.

25.4mm is a 1" steerer

28.575mm is 1-1/8" steerer

If it's bigger than one of these then it 1-1/4"

Is that the outside diameter of the steerer or the stem?
