Friends of fine fillet brazed steel is real MTB
This is a rare opportunity to buy an ElGato from Mr. Brent Steelman
It`s a 1993 18" model, OG paint and OG fork, which is next to the rare frame and even rarer opportunity to buy - check it out on all channels you know, you will probably find not more than preserved 10 Steelmans in your www-cosmos.
A friend was offering it for some time, probably not highlighting what it is. Hence I was so lucky to build some Steelman´s before (https://steelfightsback.com/steelman), from the first moment I saw it, I knew how I would build it. The (un-)fortunate situation happend, I had to buy and build what I saw over weeks in my mind :) Yes, I bought it, knowing it will be too small for me, but I wanted that SFB-journey.

Here is it, what I had in mind 9 month ago when I saw it offered on mtb news

Some details on the frame. Brent Steelman used those French tubes from Excel. He not only brazed them, he finised the ends to the steerer ovalized, which is simpky amazing imho. The mixture of those ovalized tunes and the logs on the BB and drops is great interplay of classic MTB frame components I find.
On teh condition of the frame. It has some wear (see the pics on MTB news for details), but overall there are no dents or serious scratches. Biggest spot is the bigger scratch which you cant see, its on the down tube, so when you ride it well, there is dirt from the trails :). other than that,of course there are some paint chips which tell some stories on previous owners.

Lets spot the fork in detail. The steerer is made out of Tange tubes, while Mr. Steelman built this one with straight blades and those fascinating lugs/drops. The smoke grey is unique, we all know how this looks if you polish it a bit. All (very few) Steelman collectors I spoke to about this fork are flashed by it, though its not fillet (comparing to others).

the grey chrome was also ruling my cockpit idea. SSSSSalsa, spicey for the red racer, for sure. I choose a ProMoto Cockpit with a roller stem (20° 155cm) and the Salsa handlebar in grey chrome with old school Magura grips and traditional 732 levers and thumbies.
(The buyer has the option to change this stem to a Salsa roller in 130mm with a similar rise)

And the connection of cockpit and frame, sure, a No-logo KING!
Look at this headbadge decal 👊 MADE IN CAL", typical for Steelmans

Besides those highlights I choose lots black XT 730/732/735 with a bling part speaking to the kIng: the silver XT post. Take a seat on this nice post or rather its sportive Turbo light!

Matching headset and post? sure, the SG rings, some raicng drills (haha) , at least matching the CS protector: Finish line!

Now the Mavic side of the build. When I saw the frame I this Mavic MA 40 and black XT wheel set was the first I wanted to put on it. Spottin the Mavic QRs I remembered the Mavc BB in my BB box, it had to go in it then and matches perfect.
the wheels are running on Panaracer Timbuk tyres. the front is NOW, its a MuddyFox Version, while the rear is VGC and a II version
