Steel Polishing...

In a flurry of New Year things to do, I was thinking about stripping the paint from the Velocity stem and bars and polishing the bare steel up so it's all nice and shiny like my new seat post.

Whats the best way of doing it i.e. stripping the paint?

I have a dremel with the polishing bits and bobs to get it shiny, but what's the best way of keeping it shiny and rust free (as it would be bare metal)

Finally does anyone know if you can get replacement decals for the stem and bars - does Gil_m have them on file?

Thanks in advance

I tried that once with pretty poor results. Didn't look good and didn't last either. You definitely need to lacquer or wax it or something because the moisture in the air turns the surface rusty in about 5mins.

Strip with Nitromors and figure out what to protect it with. I think there's a good reason you don't see many polished steel frames or components.

Polishing steel is a good thing to do before you plate it. Nickel plate looks really good when you polish the tubes first!
