An old Marin is a good choice, especially as they had full rack mounts and reasonably upright riding positions in the lower-end frames (Bear Valley and below). Don't buy something with exotic tubes if touring, the extra rigidity is really an advantage if laden with panniers. That's why 753 and others aren't on tourers.
