is it any good ? how does it stack up against shimano xt xtr ?
considering it for my new build.
or would you recomend something else ?

I run 9x3 X0 and am very happy with it. Run for two years I think and no issues and no fiddling either. I also run a 1x10 with an X0 mech with an XX shifter and it is almost a year old and is smooth as silk.

Saying that I ran some XTR 8 speed shifters for 10 years as a daily ride and they are still fine.

Having used only Shimano for 20+ years, I bought a HT off here a few years ago that was equipped with as new 3x9 X0 shifter's and rear mech, front mech is an XTR, sram cassette and chain, with a RF crank. I immediately liked it's positivity and instant shifting. It's my winter bike and with minimal maintenance, it has been reliable and precise; spring time cleaning includes clean and lube of the cables.

I do like the subtlety of XTR and the lightness of XT, however, I felt both could also feel a bit vague and I needed to fettle a lot more to keep them shifting when I wanted to shift.

I specced and built my new FS, bought in May this year, runs X9 3x10 shifter's mech's, chain and cassette, with SLX cranks. It too is performing faultlessly; whilst I find it not as 'solidly precise' as the X0, it's lighter lever action is still very positive and accurate and like the X0, handles multiple shifts with no fuss.

My current project Ala Carte, is being done with an attempt to control expense, so I'm hunting ebay, here and STW et al for used X9/X0. I'm converted!!

Personally, I have more confidence that the gear I want will be delivered with the Sram higher end stuff than I do/did with XT and XTR shifters and mechs.

Enjoy your build!

x9 and x0 is top end stuff- no reason why not to go for it - bear in mind the RH shifter pulls different amount of calbe to shimano so it will not work with shimano rear shifters.

had a feeling they were not compatible but got my eyes on an x0 rear derry for starters :D

I've had a couple of X9 rear mechs that have developed a lot of play in the main pivot(where it bolts to the hanger on the frame) to the point where they were unuseable.
In my opinion Shimano stuff is a better long term/high mileage option.

I'm a total Sram convert. I run a 9 speed X0 rear mech with an X9 shifter on my Cotic and I really like it, it's very positive and feels better than my 10 speed X9 clutch mech with an X9 shifter.

I've used Sram stuff for yonks now and don't think I'll go back now. I've still got an 05 X9 mech that is a bit floppy, but still shifts perfectly.

The reason I swapped was because my M952 XTR stuff didn't like mud very much. I found that in the Peaks I was going through a set of cables a week just to keep it shifting smoothly. My X9 stuff that I swapped to, just kept on going despite whatever the conditions.

well its going to be sram now as ive just indulged in a xo black box derry and a set of x9 shifters 8) just need the front mech now 31.8 top pull for those that may have a spare one

Much as I love SRAM I don't rate their front mechs. I run XT and XTR front mechs and they definitely shift better.
