Great Singlespeeds, made of combo steel...recently sold off, and I have not bought any of the new company bikes. Here's some info:
May 15, 2006—Golden, Colorado. U.S.A. Spot Brand Components, Inc., manufacturer of singlespeed bicycles, components and cycling clothing, will be operating under new ownership and relocating its world headquarters to Golden, Colorado effective May 15, 2006.
Founded in 1997 by Michael Golinski, Jessica Stein and Lewis Stein, Spot Brand previously operated in Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the past nine years, Spot Brand developed a strong, brand-loyal customer base and a world-wide distribution network. This has grown Spot into one of the industry’s leading producers of singlespeed bicycles and accessories.
Industry veteran Frank Scurlock, formerly of Maverick and RockShox, will be leading the management team at the new Spot Brand Co., LLC. “Michael and Jessica have done a brilliant job developing the brand and producing high-end singlespeed bicycles and components, as well as technical and lifestyle accessories. We’re in a really great position to grow the brand.”
Jessica and Lewis Stein will continue to work with Spot Brand, consulting with the new management team to evolve Spot’s growing line of soft goods. Michael Golinski will be moving on to pursue other interests.
The new incarnation of Spot will manufacture and market products exclusively under the Spot Brand name at the new headquarters in Golden, Colorado. “We’ll continue to offer innovative singlespeed products, and keep them exciting and fresh,” says Scurlock. “There’s a very strong niche of bike enthusiasts who enjoy riding singlespeeds and changing it up a little bit, and they appreciate well-designed gear and clothing. We’re going to keep them happy.”

That was perfect, thanks. I'm guessing the new generation Spots maybe considered inferior? I have noticed that the new ones seem to have a decal for the headtube rather than a badge...is that right....any other diffs?
There are a couple on Ebay USA that don't seem to very expensive....I thought the frames alone were in the $1500 area....guess custom paint jobs add a fair whack?

I had one with a badge, and one with a decal, both amde by Spot before the selloff. The materials used would be the biggest difference, and also the manufacturing.
The only ones I've seen on ebay are the newer ones, every now and then, an older one will come up. Yet, even they tend to go for far less used than their retail price...perhaps a lot of people just aren't on to them. Yes, the frames were in the $1000 and up range, but on ebay, whoe bikes can be had for $1000 to $1500 depending on spec, while frames, in good shape, routinely go for $350 to $500 depending on paint and badging...custom paint would definitely bring that up.
btw, the rear dropouts will always have "Spot" engraved on them.
