Spokes hit RC35 fork legs

So, I just got a wheel rebuilt for my RC200, using a 32h Pace RC50 hub. You would think that with both fork and hub coming from the same source, a std 3x lacing would not be a problem, but when I popped the finished wheel into the hub, the spokes with the nipples on the inside hit the fork legs

Any wheel experts know if the wheel can be laced with a cross pattern, but with all nipples on the outside?

Or do I have to go radial?

Pretty sure I've seen a thread with this problem on here, but damned if I can find it now...

Re:

Looks like you have the pre 93 forks.
The legs on these are not tapered at the bottom like the 93 and 94 forks.
I have both forks and the carbon hub and the earlier(rc 100) era nylon bodied hub.
The hubs are a slightly different shape.
If you want,I could measure the distance between the spoke flanges on both hubs.
You need the later fork or the earlier hub.
Even on the later fork, with the carbon hub, there is virtually no clearance between the spokes and the dropout.

Re: Re:

Super :( Thanks for the in depth info anyway.

The original wheel was actually OK, a nice Hope Fatso, but had it rebuilt with the RC50 for the Carbon front end look.

So it looks like its gonna be radial.

I did find a BMX article on cross lacing with nipples all on the outside

http://www.bikeforums.net/bmx/509590-la ... lange.html

but it depends if RB member balobas at my LBS is OK attempting that lacing

Re:

Interesting, recently had the same problem with a set of RC30's , thought I was going mad for a little while
So I need to use an earlier hub with the earlier RC30/35's. :)

You can lace radially, with all the nipples on the outside, that way you get the clearance needed

If I remember right, the earlier carbon front hub with the silver flange and older PACE sticker is the correct hub for the early forks, the hub is slightly narrower/longer axle to allow clearance.

Looking good though buddy 8)

Re:

Could you use two 2mm washer each side of the hub before clamping the wheel back into the forks..only a thought, would that clear and be ok....never done it before

Re: Re:

I have thought of that. Will probably try it before relacing, though I will need to modify the washers slightly, as the RC50 hub has the double skewer/bolted axle, so the ends are oval, not round.

As long as everything works ok and fits nice a safe 8)

Should be easy to get washers of ebay and oval them out to fit....see if it works if no good...then guess the new wheel option is needed

This should work for sure, I have one bike with a later RC30 and Paul hub which suffered the same problem. I ended up buying some hub axle spacers (essentially 2mm washers) and it has been working perfectly since, 3 years on 8)
