I had a similar issue once. All fine off the bike, but when fitted, the free hub would appear to stick a bit.

The cause was when the axle was tightened, the drop out would press against the cassette lock ring. I can't quite remember what I was running but I think I either removed the spacer from behind the cassette or replaced with a slimmer one.

It’s been fine for last couple of years though. And with cassette removed the issue is still present

Ah - are you missing a spacer? Check the exploded diagram for parts. There's a 1mm space in Hope Pro4s and a 2mm spacer in Hope Pro2s and EVOs - miss that out and you get the same problem which you are having.....
