Speedplay Frog Pedals - Opinions Please

Got a new set today.

So far I like the way they look, low weight and they offer a good amount of float....which I can see being easy on the knees.

On the downside, I found myself being unclipped when I didn't want to be. No "click" or much resistance when unclipping. Somehow I don't think I'll be feeling secure bombing down some hills or twisty single tracks.

I haven't lived with these long enough to make up my mind if I like them or not.

Would appreciate input from other riders....

I'm on my second pair...for a road bike though! In my opinion the elastomer sprung wedge in the cleat that hold you on the pedal is just not strong enough to pop the retaining wedge down and hold you in when the pedal is muddy or gritty with sand and pebbles. They just don't have the positive engagement that a SPD provides.

On a road bike, and I'm saying this as a non racer type road rider, they work great and allow for the use of MTB style shoes which allow you to wear the shoes more easily before and after a ride without fiddling with sandals or cleat covers. They are double sided which is nice in traffic.

They are very durable and I've had no problems with anything related to them in the 11 years I've used them. Remember though, that I use them on the road, so someone else will have to chime in for a true off road endorsement.

I have 'em on every one of my bikes and have used them for the best part of 12 years. You'll very quickly get used to the way they clip in, in the same way you had to learn to use SPDs. It'll take a while but you will be able to trust them to hold you in firmly.

Good choice in pedals, just give them a little time
