Weren't all early Future shock forks subject to a recall and replaced with rock shox?

No, only the 1st generation (that had SPECIALIZED text on the sides). Their crowns slipped somehow and only the crowns were changed. Other than that, there's nothing wrong with them (basically a RS-1 fork).
The newer ones are with Mag 21 internals. I've had 1992 FS, 1993 FSX and 1994 FSX Carbon/Ti models and they're just like Rock Shox, only nicer (at least the carbon model).
