SPEC hand built in Brentwood essex

I got my myself Spec frame in Reynolds 653 tubing. Frame still have original cherry red color with sparkles and is lovely to ride. My frame has Cinelli lugs and BB, Campagnolo dropouts and geometry of the frame is nice. It's sad that there is not much of the information about the company itself, would be nice to know history.

Spec Cycles was run by Brian Spec and was my local bike shop in Benfleet. A great guy who really knew his stuff and would give you stuff on credit till pay day if he knew it would keep you riding. I brought one of his frames in about 1983. He had a frame builder who from memory was the head of metallurgy at Ford's research centre in Dunton. I can't remember his name but I did meet him. His passion was cycling and he started to make frames for Spec Cycles. My frame was made to measure with Brian and the frame builder taking all of my measurements and making me a frame to my specifications, I was racing and doing Triathlon and wanted a bike that I could do both on. I had a beautiful frame made which I built up with Campagnola Chorus. It road like a dream and cornered on rails. I still have it and can't bring myself to part with it. His frames where built to a very high standard. As someone else has said Brian's shop closed when the row of shops were redeveloped.
