I can't say if they work ok as I don't use SPDs... I've just got a (very) s/hand bike yesterday and they came with it. I've sprayed the SPD bit with Plusgas to help any potential stiffness then I cleaned them up... there still is a bit of surface rust on the bolts that screw the steel cages onto the plastic bodies.
