Sorting a frame if too small seat post been used?

Still not sure if I definitely have an issue but it is possible a 29.6mm post has been used in a 30.0 frame tube

I am getting a definitive 30.0mm seatpost and will see how it goes with the frame tube but I suspect it wont fit through the clamp now - the clamp is part of the frame

So what's the next step? I am guessing it will be oval at the clamp but ok further down, so do I just get it reamed out to 30.0mm or try and reshape it somehow?

I'd use a smaller seat post or something round and use that to widen the hole back to its original size. I need to do the same on another frame.

I have used an old wooden broom handle in these circumstances - minimises any damage to the frame.

Re:

First step is to check it is designed to take a 30.0mm post. You need to use something like a telescopic bore gauge and calipers measuring below the slotted area.

Where abouts are you?

I believe it's a 97/98 ish Raleigh Special Products 853 steel frame... Just a guess.. ;)

In which case it's definitely 30.0 - catalogue spec.

yep 30.0 and my kit box has most sizes but that

don't seem many decent (eg Ritchey) 30.0s around for a sensible price these days
