SORTED HAPPILY-Wtd - Red Team Raleigh (SBDU or replica)-531

Leatherseat

Retro Guru
Sorted - many thanks to Paul q, I've bought a NOS Raleigh Record (full 531, some scratches, so I won't be afraid to ride it!). Resting at a bike shop 15 miles from home (fate...) - 23.5'', 56 cm top tube. Fabulous - what a rich red.
New thread to follow, but my research has uncovered a future itch (!) for an SBDU frame - I'll worry about that in a few months time and enjoy building and riding this one.

I have an itch - watching re-runs of Brian Jacks etc on Superstars has reminded me of my 'need' for a Red/ Black/yellow Team Raleigh - replica or an SBDU built one.

Revised sizing to give more options - 56+ cm top tube and no more than 62 cm (ct)seat tube.
Happy to consider complete bike or just frame/ forks. Preference for 531 (or better) tubing.

Anything around or any suggestions where else to look?

Thanks,

David

Robbiebee,

Thanks for looking out - I spotted this and am pondering it, but I'm a little reluctant to go below 57cm for the top tube (ideally I'd find a 58 or 59cm top tube, but accept that doesn't seem likely).

Thanks again,

David

Hi,

You could speak to Dave Marsh at Universal Cycles. He has 2 in his shop at the moment. Both are on original paint & look great.

Andy.

Andy162,

Is that Universal Cycles of Basildon? (From my Google search. If not, the where...?)

I'll try them on monday morning. Thanks for the tip.

David

Andy 162,

Aaah!, Maltby is the location. Phone call keenly anticipated for Monday morning. (Work can wait...).

Many thanks,

David

yeah....that's the guy. Dave's knowledge really is encyclopedic on all things "retro/vintage". I was in the shop just last week buying some clipped pedals for my Eroica bike. He sponsors the club I ride for & is a good guy. His shop is a treasure trove of "the rare & beautiful!"...

Andy.
