*solved* XTR M950 Mystery

Hi all,

I bought some XTR M950 brake levers but after receiving them I noticed they don't "close" very well and there is a gap between the lever and the main "body" of the brake unit. It seems strange to make a brake like this, very open to dust and grime entering. I have looked at images online and can't find a lever that looks like this. I was wondering if the levers came from another brake and that is why they don't fit perfectly. Or am I just wrong and this is how they look?

Re: XTR M950 Mystery

Check the cable housing inside the lever body is up, if the housing is flopped down it will foul the lever and not close.

If you pull the lever, as if putting on brake, the floppy bit that the end of the cable hooks into should be lifted up when closing to fit all the way into the main body pointing towards the hole and barrel adjuster where the cable leaves the lever. If it flops down, usually without a cable in, then it will get in the way and stop the lever from closing fully.

Eh, no.

I have now though.
Mystery solved, case closed.

The big new mystery is how I managed to function this long despite my tiny brain.
