For sale I have a complete modern factory spec control set-up for sale in lovely condition which were fitted to a mint 2009 Giant SCR3 (24 speed, 54cm compact) which I'm converting to flat bar set-up for my Dad, comprising:

- pair Sora 8 x 3 STIs (mint apart from small marks from up-ending bike by previous owner mending a puncture!)
- black Giant A3 modern ergo drop bars (26.0mm clamp x 41.5cm c-c of ends)
- Jagwire brake cables (inner & outers in perfect condition)
- black bar tape and bar end plugs (also near mint condition)
- your choice of two 26.0mm stems here to match the bars, the OEM Giant one and a short Cinelli. I can throw in either stem for free as I don't need that size having fitted 25.4mm bars & stem to the bike these bars & STIs came off.

The set up is ideal for any modern 24 speed tourer / road / 'cross bike - or a toe in the water for some kind of MTB with drops if said MTB has 24 speeds and cantis?

I'm looking for £60 for the lot (which should almost cover the cost of the flat bars & stem, brake/gear levers, grips and end plugs I need to replace them!) or £50 for just the STIs.

Prices include postage in UK only :D

I might be interested... except that I should think the chances of them successfully indexing with a 7 speed hub with 8 9speed cogs on are minimal?! If that makes any sort of sense!

Hey Rob,
they would work with standard 7 or 8 speed cassettes (same spacing I think) but I'm not sure about your set-up... someone like Fluffy Chicken would know!?

Yes, that probably answers the question - if they are for standard 7 speed spacing then they won't work on 8 cogs squashed into that space. Hey ho...

so what shifter would work for you? 9 speed?

Yes, it would need to be a 9 speed index, or anything friction with a bit of adjustment room at the top end. Really I should go for bar-end shifters, that's plan A - since I already have some modern drops and nice Shimano drop levers.

It's for my new bike, very excited about this... picking it up on Thursday!

pic added - more available on request!

Been asked if I have the OE 26.0mm stem, I do and I also have a Cinelli short 26.0mm stem available!

Might I suggest Dura Ace 9 speed downtube shifters? You don't see them that often but they do go cheaply on Ebay when they appear. I've just fitted a pair to my Bill Nickson and they shift beautifully.
