soap box cars

Happy to remotely offer my engineering skills, just dont set your solicitor mate on me if you end up with your head up a cows arse.

I took part in the Red Bull Soap Box race in 2004

If you need any help let me know.

Can't open all the links on my phone but i'll check tomorrow.

Andy, any idea what causes the wheels to bend? Too much sideways force? How can that be avoided? Small wheels? Negative camber?

Adjustable camer is the way to go. Then, when the course is decided, you can just dial in the necessary according to your extensive development teasting. :D
Use BMX wheels rather than kiddy bike hoops.

I've got a car entered in the Pedal Car GP. It's just off being sprayed at present, but rest assured I'll send pics. 8)

At the moment I'm trying to get the brakes fettled..disc on one side and drum on the other  with left and right fiddle levers.

This is the first year - we are going for some experience this time round, then next winter it will be a 2WD conversion (currently 1WD).

i'd live to see pics of that. why disc on one side and drums on the other?

Angle the wheels inward slightly like a racing wheelchair thus the loading stress on the axles/spokes/rims etc is reduced when cornering. Go for BMX wheels especially those with loads of spokes for strength and in soapbox racing weight is not an issue. Make sure bearings are good and tyre pressure high for low rolling resistence and keep weight low. Finally good brakes means late braking, carrying more speed through turns can win a race :D
