When i was in the trade i used to use a kestrel engineering model b http://www.kestrelengineering.co.uk/repair_stands.html and it was great but now i work from home and now i need a good quality very stable work stand and cant afford the kestrel for home use so i ask.

1. What do you use
2. How much did it cost
3. Is it very stable :|
4. Is it easy to use
5. If it broke and you had to buy another what would you get as the replacment :D 8)

Please add your pics and answers to all five questions.

As soon as we have a list of stands and reviews il do a poll to find retrobikes favourite workstand 8)

I have a Cyclo tools one, which I got when the bike shop closed down (not much help I know)

If you can get one they are very good, heavy as hell & very stable, easy to use, but not so easy to lug about.

If it broke I'd get another, but it's so well bult it will not break lol

A lot of folks recommend the Park Tools work stands, this one looks the business : http://www.southwatercycles.com/product ... 3383&rs=gb

If it's a bit pricey then maybe: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=5787[/img]

I think I have a model E at work . I liked the one at the previous shop , it had a wheel to tighten the clamp instead of a bar but ideally I'd have something that didn't require holding the bike with one hand and screwing the clamp closed with the other :x I've seen some with a quick release lever so I'd have one of those .

Park PCS1 is simple, reliable and cheap and will last forever, mine is one of the old grey ones, the newer ones have height adjustment too I think:

I also have the Bontrager pro stand, which is incredibly solid and versatile, quite expensive though:

1. What do you use
Tree

2. How much did it cost
Came with the house and land

3. Is it very stable
The tree is...

4. Is it easy to use
Just hang it on, pick the apples and prune. Could be classed as high maintenance.

5. If it broke and you had to buy another what would you get as the replacement
No idea, so interested in this chat... I think it might break before my birthday though

my mates bike shop have some old old cast iron workstands must weigh about 60 lbs mebee 100 yrs old and they are superb
bought at a local auction a few years ago
he's a generalized dealer (with all the corporate bolloks that that ensues)now but his mechs still prefer the old stands

Tree and carreara stands are ingenious!

I have a cheapo stand from Decathalon. does the job.

If you want to keep it retro the best way is to chase your bike round the garage whilst trying to fix it. Proper old skool.
