So am I the a***hole or the motorist?

i always undertake in the same way you did and most times if anyone objects then just ease out into the middle of the road so cars cannot pass without moving into the other lane. Cyclists don't have to cycle over to the left, as valid road users we have rights to use the full width of the lane if we wish. I car drivers are stupid enough to act in this way then i will do all I can to piss them off.

(i've always been meaning to keep a water bottle full of paint stripped on my bike so I can spray a little on cars that piss me off as they go by but always been to scared that I might get thirsty and forget it's not water!!!!)

If your pissing in this guys porche ,I hope it was a hot day
if you get the chance again ,chuck in a bit of fish [under a seat if you can ,under the carpets is best
A workmate added a bit of fish under the seat on a works van, not our work   ,it was summer and was usually parked in the sun ,the smell was apparently overpowering but impossible to locate [he hid it well]
the poor unfortunate driver had an industrial sized air freshener on the dash for two weeks and by the look on his face didnt like the combination
They suspect us

I tried to drive form one end of our village (Sowerby Bridge) to the other to visit my mate back home yesterday at 5PM...

Traffic was worse than i remembered, so, after 5 mins no move, despite rain and denims,,, I did a U turn back to mums, grab my Dr Jekyll on 24's! 8) on the hill down I was overtaken by a motorbike. now as I had no helmet or gloves (or pads), feeling naked cos if it, i took it relatively easy, anyway, this thread in mind, I opted to follow the motorbike through the right side of teh traffic, good job as there was not a lot of room in the gutter.

Guess what, despite care, following the motorbikbike, some dick in a Mazda 6 Beeps at me, or the motorbiker, causing lapse of concentration, adrenaline, aaaand some look back and swearing!

Just why, he was doing 2mph at best! :(

If that happens to me in Manc or wherever my priority is watching out for the biker...in the rain. the fool.

You did nothing illegal, but filtering up the inside at speed isn't very safe - the car may turn left across you without indicating. Being in the right isn't much comfort when you're waiting for the ambulance...

My 2p... not sure why others here have said that you were right as the traffic was standing still, it wasn't, it was...

You undertook a car that was accellerating away from a junction and then gave him some verbal because he made his presence felt behind you when he re-took his position on the road.

Six of one, half dozen of the other if you ask me.

We (cyclists) are vunerable, soft things that will always lose a fight with a motorist, better to cycle defensively and keep quiet than aggressively and end up being scraped off the tarmac.

or a Hearse

I'd say this is a constuctive thread :)

its true, yeah the left side is dodgy specially at a junction.
As a car driver when turning I always check for bikes, left, and motor bikes right, but not everyone does and its sometimes hard to see.

Bikers need to be careful as its dangerous both sides TBH. remember that most nuggets don't signal either. taking care can go a long way really.
