Yes, I am... problem?

Its 'acting', which unless I'm very much mistaken comes under the heading of 'performing arts' and has done since the ancient Greeks strutted around open air theatres reciting Aristotles nonsense.

Vapid soap operas are not the place, in my view, for a pro smoking stand.
What a load of utter tripe. Firstly it's not 'pro' smoking to have one or two characters out of probably 40 to have the occasional fag. What about drinking? Adultery? Dangerous driving? Drugs? Theft? I'm no soap expert but AFAIK these are all fairly common themes, not to mention many more risque topics.

It's the role of parents to educate children in these areas, not television programmes, channels or the state. The sooner people start taking some personal responsibility rather than perpetually blaming someone else for their own failures the better. I'll not hold my breath though.

You don't need to hold your breath.

In context, it is the breath of someone who has little experience in the matter.

As far as banning anything, I am totally against that.

Making sure there is zoning is another matter, and I am perfectly happy with a watershed whereupon the parent must take control.

Anything else is totally unrealistic, and naive.

I would be happy to hear swearing pre watershed.

Nothing inherently body busting about swearing!

:)

Considering the effects alcohol has on society, I'd have thought a tirade on the *horrors* of drinking would have been more apt, considering the show has a pub in it?

I would rather kids were 'normalised' to people smoking over drinking.

Fact; I have never had a bunch of 'smokey' youths vandalise my property.

Fact; more people die from drink-driving than drink-smoking incidents.

Little experience in what? And HTF do you know what I'm experienced in?

A watershed is cop out bullshit imo. There's no watershed in real life, people swear, people smoke, people get drunk and strangely enough the welfare of other people's children isn't their primary concern. That is for the parents.

If you don't want them watching it fair enough. Don't let them watch it. But I would prefer not to be nannied to just appease the right-on brigade. If you want to make sure they don't see anyone smoking you could always take them to the pub when Eastenders is on (if you can find one the smoking ban hasn't closed down that is).

Some good poinst raised. I thus change my opion. I still destest smoking though. And eastenders. Such a mundane show makes me despair.
