smaller thumb shifters?

About thumb shifters, I have got Shimano XT and was going to use them but have found the gear arms too long for me when I place my hand the the bar grips as my hand is big (like spades, lol) just wondered if any of you found the SRAM smaller than the Shimano ones?, I need to find some with shorter gear arms so my hand doesnt touch it, if there are some?

Sorry if i've missed the point, but why not mount the shifters further inboard? :?

I have the same problem with rapidfire units and position them about an inch from the brake lever clamps.

That could be worth a try, the ones I have are quite big.

Does anyone rated SRAM any good?
