I need to ship a bike to australia. it doesnt matter if it takes 6 months to get there (as long as it arrives in 1 piece!). anyone used any haulage companies for bikes? any recommendations appreciated :)

Yeah, this is a tough one!! I've sent a lot of bikes from the states/japan/korea to aus and havent found anything cheap. We have tight restrictions on the size of parcels that our post will take. I've broken road bikes into three boxes in usps and gotten it here for about $200US at the cheapest, but now thats apparently a no go. I've just ordered another via DHL, I think and its about $300 in one box but very fast.
I used a courier company from Korea called CJS, i think and they were really cheap! I think it was on a ship. Maybe $150.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but i did a fairly long search for companies when leaving the states, and nobody was into it. Either they were companies that specialized in huge volumes and a bike was too small to take advantage of it, or they dont want anything as big as a bike.... it killed me!

Something that you may want to check out is the companies that now transport your bike to your triathlon, wherever you are racing. I think if you got onto them, they might be into it. Whereabouts in Australia is it going?

I'm sure many people want to ship things to Australia but are put off by the price
There must be things like , joint shipping containers, where people pay one price and the lot gets shipped in one of these freightline containers.

Check out the moving companies that ship belongings for people emigrating :?

If all else fails then it might be cheaper to fly it over on a short holiday break,if you look about you may get a cheap virgin/easyjet flight

I had a £1800 insurance value bike shipped from Oz for $180 OZ a few years back & got here in 6days. I havent looked into UK - OZ yet.

i'm trying to avoid travellin with the bike. but i've done it countless times before, so maybe I'll be forced to again if the shipping price is high. i'd rather limit the amount of times I have to go to Oz.

is cost the problem? Only about 18 months ago I got a complete Cindercone in one box out to Andrewl for £102. Things have probably moved on (backwards) since then.

i can take it on the flight for free. tho multiple airports getting there with a bike & masses of luggage is a PITA. so unless I can find a slow boat for cheap i'll be dragging it with me.. but leaving it there this time for future trips.
