slime inner tubes

Sick to death of punctures now so thinking of buying some of these from halfords today, few questions first though.

1. Do they work
2. Are they worth the money £9 each
3. How long does the puncture resistance last EG a year, 6 months?

I've been trying them for a while now and after a thankfully not too long walk home yesterday.......I'm giving up with them, they're no match for the local thorns

I'll elaborate a little, they cope with small slow punctures ok but anything significant they don't and just to rub salt in the wound I've found that repair patches then won't stick to them very well leaving you needing to replace the tube anyway

Hmm, Cheers Jango, Now i'm thinking maybe go the other way and put 2 new standard tubes in and then fill them with slime, So if the sealant doesn't work then i can stick a patch on.

If you ride in a real thorny area go tubeless, either ghetto or full UST and use latex solution. I've tried both and they both work, you can either leave the thorn in or remove the thorn, spin the wheel a few revolutions (or just carry on riding) and the gloop spurts out and heals the hole.

There is a problem with sealing large holes or sidewall cuts so you'd have to fit a tube in that situation, just remember to make sure all the thorns that you've left in the tyre are out before you put the tube in.

Don't bother with tyre liners (tough plastic or the kevlar), larger thorns just go through them, I've had some limited success with latex solution filled inner tubes but even they have let me down, slime tubes have been pretty poor IME :(

I use them on the dmr . Had 20 thorns in the front tyre when it was time to change the tyre to another .

I never carry spare tubes , don't see the point , if I had to change the tube I'd also have to spend an hour digging all the crap out of the casing so I might as well walk home .

I also sleeve the slime tubes with an extra tube so it's double the thickness .

The kona just has normal tubes in it and I avoid using it in the winter

I've been giving some serious thought to going tubeless in the dmr to see if it's reliable enough to also use in the kona .

I tried them. worked of a sort. But in the end went back to normal inners

Where are you guys finding all these thorns?

Rural Lincolnshire. :(

   Not something I really come across.

However - am about to put slime in one of my daughter's bikes just to help puncture protection (mostly roads and gravel tracks).
Touch wood I've been quite lucky puncture-wise recently, except when I took the skinny wheeled Bianchi offroad between Loch Rannoch and Loch Tay
