Slick/semi slick summer tyres

I have an Ali bso that I use daily to and from work but also to stop the light fingered from taking my retros.

I've seen a very nice cannondale bad boy but my budget for non retro is minimal. So this summer, liking the look of the ultra thin tyre I have decided to use the standard rim but a skinny tyre.

I have had a 1.5 city jet on the rim before but like the look of the kojaks which come in 1.35. as well as 2.0.

Has anyone used slicks on a standard mtb rim and if so what were/are the slimmest you have used. Also any good reviews and reccomendations on semis or slicks ?

Than you for any replies

i use 1.5 city jets on my pubber and they are ok.

I used to clubruns on a no-suss MTB and ran 28mm conti gator skins wjich were really good, but not so good for a town bike where I want a bit of cushioning. But its all relative, I'm a roadie normally on 23/25mm tyres so 1.5 cityjets are luxury

Re:

I did try 1.5" city jets and found them really harsh. (as well as a pita to fit) I then went to 28mm gatorskins and found them smoother, faster and easier to fit.

Re:

I used the thinnest Tioga City Slickers (1.25) for many years quite happily on my ATB. I got rid of them because I wanted more puncture resistance for commuting and am now using Continental Tour Ride's. Ritchey Tom Slicks are another popular slick locally, but like the Tioga's they are a bit fragile. If I could afford it I'd get some Shwalbe Marathon's. Panaracer makes a decent urban slick as well - can't remember the name off the top of my head.

Ive only ever ridden a mountain bike with slicks.

Started off with with tioga city slickers about 25 years ago, then specailized fat boys (1.5) and nowadays schwalbe kojaks (skinnies).

Not so good in the rain.

Re:

Using DMR 2.3" Supermotos on my commuter.
Heavier tyre weight, but keep the pressures up & the contact patch (and thus rolling resistance) is not dissimilar to a narrower tyre, with the added benefit of comfort over the inevitable potholes etc..
They are sublime in the wet, but obviously wider tyres dont fit all frames - never had a puncture yet tho..

If in doubt have a search for Angry Asian on Bikeradar regarding road racer bikes (a rare worthwhile article on that site!) and there's a fair number of reasons given not to suffer on tiny tyres unnecessarily..;)

I have used a few 1.5" in my life including my all time favorite Tioga City Clickers. I have also used the same in 1.95" and they were great.

I use a Schwalbe semi slick on my touring bike and plan to buy a set of Scwalbe Kojaks for my Nishiki Ariel.

I have 100psi one inch continentals on my Marin........obviously a little sketchy in the wet as the contact patch is small, but very low rolling resistance and as near to a 700c road tyre as you will get for a 26" wheel........
