Skeeter1's 1997/98 Kona ManoMano

So on Saturday I met up with a Lady and her husband, and she had owned this ManoMano from new!
I really wasn't fussed about the condition and certainly wasn't going to be picking holes as It was for sale for £40 ...Yes you are reading correctly!!
(I wanted a commuter bike, something That still had a retro flare to it but not have to be precious about and my budget was strictly going to be £50.)
They were from Essex and I live on the Isle of Wight, but after a few messages back and forth they were planning a trip to Gunwharf quays in Portsmouth.. Luckily for me I have a season ticket for the Hovercraft as my daily commute is the mainland. (So no more additional costs 😉)
As I got closer to them and approached the bike I couldn't believe my eyes!
The notes came out of my pocket faster than you could say ManoMano and the deal was done.
Not surprisingly I had walked no further than 100 meters when someone stopped me saying how retro the bike was and drolled for a good minute before I had to rush off to get the Hovercraft home.

Now it's home and I've had a good look at it and referred to the old catalogue,I'm now realising that this fund is far better than expected!
All original parts apart from the saddle (got one on the way ha ha),grips, pedals and tyres.
The original stem isn't on it at the moment but they gave me that which was tucked inside a saddlebag! (Will definitely be fitting that)
Now I'm stuck with a commuter bike I don't want to submit to all weathers 🤪🙈

I have now learnt a lesson....
DO NOT BUY A COMMUTER BIKE WHICH HOLDS ANY CONNECTION TO SOMETHING YOU LOVE!
Or buy a more modern bike for cheap... actually I can't do that either!! IMG_20250914_115818.webp
