Single speed sprocket size?

It's a 1:2 ratio not 2:1!

Lets not get too anal!.....everyone knows what I meant!.... ;)

Although perhaps it should be taken literally!.....that's gonna climb like a bitch!....

I used 34:18 on my '10 SE Stout 29er(29.xxlbs of steel). On the Klein I used both 36:19 & 36:18. I enjoyed the 36:19 as I had to keep my cadence up to make any progress, and it was a tad easier on hills.

Jimbog, am running a dynatech Mission daily myself, not sure of the size of yours but my small (16"?) Mission runs a 44-17 without a tensioner perfectly.
This gearing allows me to climb any of the hils around where I live and cycle.
Too low a gearing will drive you mad in no time, too high will frustrate the hell out of you.
I find Sheldon Browns (http://sheldonbrown.com/gears/) online gear calculator useful for calculating my optimum gearing, realising your optimum gearing however will be partly down to the hardware you are using, and any compromises you have to make.
The bottom line is to enjoy what you do and dont think about it too much.
Isn't that what single speeding is about?

Dave

Singlespeed ratios

Great link. Am going single chainring and 11-30 rear for my MTB/CC mix. Reckon it will do almost anything then and chainsuck no more!
Thanks.
