Single speed project

Sometime last year I picked up this Rourke 653 track iron on a bit of a whim. I was seduced by the sheriff star hubs and had been hankering after a single speed - last time I rode SS, I got fitter.

It came with a nice Campag pista crankset, Cinelli 65s and was in decent order. Helpfully the fork crown was drilled so I put a front brake on and changed the track cog for a single speed freewheel and gave it a go. My head couldn't cope with a single front brake (and fixed isn't for me) so it just got hung up for 6 months.

Last month, I decided to do something with it so this watch this space over the next couple of days

This may be seen as a bit of butchery but I wanted to build a really usable single speed so I sent it for some additional braze-ons - namely a rear brake bridge, rear brake cable guides and a pair of DT bottle bosses.

I think that the LF C-Record hubs are the prettiest you can get. The freewheel is a White industries 22t coupled with a 46t chain ring to give me a chance of getting up some hills :D

I wanted some comfy levers. I bought these new about 3 years ago and they were really hard to find.

Parts all sorted now with these Campag Potenza callipers - they weigh 39g a pair more than Record but cost less than £40. The Record equivalent street price is £162 - talk about diminishing returns!

Very nice, I got worried at the top of the thread and was more and more excited as I scrolled down!

Ha cheers...
I'll get it built up tonight. Being a single speed it should take about 10 minutes

Well it's now ready to ride. Just a taster pic ( probably upside down due to using iPad) I'll take some proper ones later
