It's got complicated again

Thanks guys

Not really -

In my opinion, if you have to use a bolt on tensioner the fixed ones are better than the sprung variety which still flap around over rocky/rooty trails. Almost as bad as having a rear mech....

If you want to do the job properly get a Forward Components EBB (there was one in the classsifieds, but I don't know if it sold or not), pick up some Shimano HT2 cranks on ebay (cheap, especially if they don't look pretty - but they polish up well).

A chainring from Blackspire or someone like that (but not Surly - they bend at the slightest provocation). Surly sprockets are nice though, and last a long time.

Get the Velosolo spacer kit (or any one that allows you to fine-tune the chainline). Unless you're going to ride somewhere with no proper hills (or you're really strong) 32:16 is too high to start with in my opinion. YMMV of course.

For a good chain look no further than a KMC Z610HX. The Sram PC-1 is generally considered not to be the best thing in the world.

For all things singlespeed take a look here.
