ahhh crap I just looked at the pics again and I see the streets aren't actually paved with gold.   :P

more like sheepig poo and chewing gum

You forgot the hippie's poo as well.

I ran away from home when I was 16 and moved to London. I thought it would all look like Notting Hill, because that was all I'd seen on the telly.

I ended up living in a bedsit in Plumstead, living with National Front mentalists and smackheads. A horrible, terrifying year for a white middle class kid, so back to Henley and a nice job in the countryside when I was 18.

Still, it's a great city to visit. There's always something to see in London. I was very lonely and because I had no money couldn't afford to go anywhere, but I'll say this; if you get bored you're showing a distinct lack of imagination.

And I'm moving to Derby at the end of July, so I'll have to get back into living in a city. I wonder what that'll be like?

I love London, sure I no longer have the hills on tap as I did in north Leeds, and to some extent Oxfordshire with the ridgeway 1/2 a mile away.

Now nearly a year into my life in London I still get a huge buzz from riding in the traffic. Bike is easly the quickest and most comfortable way around town.

I cycle commute day in day out, rain or shine, you certainly do have to keep your wits about you, and ride fairly aggressively, trying to lay claim to the same amount of road as a car does when approaching junctions etc, but being nimble and quick enough to aim for the gaps when you can. Just about all my bikes get a go on the commute at some point or another. Depending if I am after a relaxed ride in on the klein, an arsing about hopping the speed bumps type of outing on the on one, or an oh crap I 'm late...wheres my slicks effort on the road bike.

London does have so much to offer, but I can see why it scares. I used to be terrified of the place until I moved here, now living in Islington, working by tower bridge, I just see it as a privalage to experience it whilst I am (still!) young. I dont see my self growing old here!

I still love to escape the city on a weekend and go out to the hills, but living here has made me take weekends away with bikes, friends, bbq & beers more often than when the hills were on my doorstep.

not far from london , but would not live there unless i had plenty of money .

I need to see grass and trees in the monring .

i went to london to go on the eye and do the walk over tower bridge
and yes there is a car missing on the wheel i was the other side of the empty one
remember when you go to use the train however small the journey you make and get 2 for 1 entry on the cool stuff it makes london attractions much better value
london is a lovely city but i went to rome in october and that is fabulous
romans are crazy though!

The cars are missing as they are slowly working there way around them, disconnecting them, renovating them, reinstalling them, all one at a time so there is minimal disruption. (twas on the local news a while back)

And yes Rome is stunning, but I certainly wouldnt ride on the streets there! As you say, the crazies are endemic in rome.
