Show us your... Overbury's

Back on the road after buying as a F&F outfit above. At last an Overbury's Pioneer in my size - with a period ITM high-rise stem with cable roller, I can actually ride this one in considerable comfort all day :D and what a lovely ride a late '80s Reynolds531 Overbury's still is today 👍 a tribute to how well put toghether these bikes were back then. Chuffed to bits with it. 1761859739613.webp 1761909367581.webp

Picked this up from the Son of the original owner, waiting on a bit more info but its leaning towards Lynx/Puma/Wildcat. Front hub appears to be original Shimano XT dated 1986, the chainset is 'Allez' branded Takagi forged, which ties in with the catalogue, but I guess isn't necessarily original? The seatpin bolt and seatpost are both Sakae and look to be specced across the range. No frame number, BB is 12" high (on smaller tyres but still).

(Yes, it will get some different parts!)

interesting - looks like 26" wheels would fit judging by the huge gaps between frame and wheel rim - although canti bosses wouldn't line up, it is possible to use the extenders for v brakes that brompton and other small wheel bike owners use when swapping wheel sizes etc. Might need narrow tyres though. Cable routing above BB shell indicates its an early eighties bike - so takagi chainset could also be original ( pre-dates Deore and biopace etc)

Yea, its on 26" wheels, I meant the 1/25" Marathon tyres are smaller than the off froad tyres it would have been specced with. The 1985 catalog lists the Fell Rider as having a Takagi forged chainset whilst the other models had the Shimano XT (actualy a 600 EX IIRC), the 85/86 which includes the smaller framed bikes lists Lynx as having a Takagi chainset too. I'll see what the BB is and if anything else has a date code. Oh, Tange Nova headset too, likely original, better specced bikes appear to utilise the 600 EX.

I spotted that on eBay - but couldn't face going into London to collect it - I'm pleased someone on here snapped it up though, it looks like a great buy. I do love an Overbury's and what a brilliant prokect that one is. Well done 👍

I hear ya, I often can’t face going into London either, and I live there! Rode it 30 minutes home, actually walked the last few hundred metres when I realised how badly deformed the bar clamp was 😬

The bar is now in the recycling.
