Back to the original question, I think that you owe it to another bike fan to gently steer them in the right direction. I think back to when I was just starting and There were countless times when I had to be set straight about how things work.

I am with Steven on this. I bought a GT a few years ago for all the wonderful bling hanging from it. The frame seemed nice enough so after I took off what I wanted, I put it on ebay. I had no idea the decals didn't match the frame and was a bit embarrassed when I looked several hours later and found messages letting me know I was delusional, a cheat, and not worthy of selling on ebay. frame still sits in the attic. I have passively tried selling it since but not without informing potential buyers of the issue.

Re:

As a teenager in the 80's I spent a lot of my time hanging around the Sixar shop in Upminster and I know that Brian would give out the black/gold decals to stick on any old bike but would only supply the yellow ones if it was a genuine Sixar frame.

I just wish I still had my Campag equipped Sixar!

More than likely.
I was a member of the Becontree Wheelers during the early 80's and raced Road, Track and TT's. I then discovered Beer and Girls!
