Easy cats,

Any one shipped a bike from the states lately? Any hints and tips on how to keep costs down or the best service to use would be massively appreciated.

Nice one team.

yeah, USPS international priority is cheapest but has a size limit of 108" length + girth. you can build a box within this limit that takes a complete bike (up to a medium sized frame), i.e. including the wheels. i've shipped one a few weeks ago to Europe for $132 incl. $550 insurance. USPS allows a maximum insurance of $650 per parcel.

there are about 99 threads on this topic. the search function will find you plenty of additional information.

roundabout $70 for a 12pound parcel plus a few bucks for insurance

here's the online calculator, all you need is to select your country and estimate the weight

http://ircalc.usps.gov/

make sure to read the details for NZ, especially the size limitations. to NZ parcels up to 60" length and 108" length+girth are allowed so no problem to fit a frame into such a box.

...and make sure that the seller agrees to the shipping costs. sometimes they have their own ideas on that topic...
