shimano XT m730 cranks, polished or anodised?

Re:

Assuming that they are anodised, I'd be tempted to use Oven Brite to strip the anodising before starting the hard work of polishing. From my basic understanding the anodising make the surface harder - once this is stripped off it'll be much easier. I did this myself on some CODA cranks that were black anodised with a rough surface, and they came up well, and kept fairly shiny

Its the FC-MT60 chainset that you are after, no 'MT62' exits as the chainset stayed the same from its 1987/8 release with the Deore, Deore II and ultimately DX.

They polish up well but the M730 chainset is much much nicer, featuring a machined finish and all round better materials. By now many would have already been polished to within an inch of their lives anyway or the anodising has been worn off with use. If you are extra lucky you may still find NOS sets - the satin finish is nice but does wear off quickly in mud, i.e the next 6 months of UK weather.
