Hi

Can anyone confirm or point me in the right direction to find good quality replacement bearings for the XT HP M736 headset.

What is the size / bearing quality do I need?

Thanks in advance for anyhelp.

Mossy.

The HP-M736 uses 1/4" balls top and bottom in all three sizes. You can buy good quality loose 1/4" balls in any decent bike shop (they're commonly used in rear hubs), at specialist bearing suppliers, or on eBay. Get grade 25 if possible.

The number you need depends on the size steerer you have (1", 1 1/8", or 1 1/4"). The 1 1/8" model comes with 18 balls in each clip, but you may fit more in using loose balls.

Use the balls uncaged with a good quality grease and they should run smoother, you should be able to get 1 or 2 more in each side too. Make sure you leave a little space so the balls can move though, you don't want them packed in so tight that there is no room at all between each of them.
