Shimano STX Threaded headset

When stripping my frame I removed the headset cups with a pipe wrench cause I stupidly thought I was going to get a different headset.
So me being an idiot i have damaged the cups on the STX headset :( . Problem I have is that I need either two replacement cup and the bearing sets for the headset or a different threaded headset with a similar stack height.
This is because I don't want to be messing about with the length of the steerer tube on the forks I have.

Please can someone help?

You certainly would be extremely lucky to find one new. I was lucky and one turned up on chainreaction last year and is now on my p7. If anyone has one spare, this is the best place to find it.

If that fails though, you could at a push use a shimano 105 or dura ace road headset. There are still some 1" version of those around and they should have a lower stack height than stx I would have thought (and you can then make up any difference with washers). Not ideal I know, but if you're not going to hammer the bike too hard then one of these and a lizrardskins or endura headset cover should do you ok.

You could also try places that make a business out of bike restoration in case they have any knocking about. Maybe argos in Bristol or api bikes ?

Bromley Bike Co have one NOS. I went looking for headsets on Saturday and this was one of the options I looked at. Think it was £20.

Dave,

Good spot, headset purchased from Bromley Bikes Co.
Thanks for the help from you all.

Cheers,

Phil
