Shimano SL 1055 levers - question

I have fitted some 105 Levers to my Bike. One question for you clever people.

Should the LH (front) Downtube lever sit flat level with the downtube, or raised around 30 degree's

Im not sure about 105 levers but for the 6400 levers, it certainly is the case that the left lever sits 30' or so proud, the idea being that you can access both levers with your right hand

If they’re like the Exage ones, they’ll push all the way forwards but in use they’ll swing between about 90 degrees and 30 degrees to the tube. The Exage ones have indexing clicks and that’s approximately where they are. I hadn’t considered using the front index click and the forward-most lever position but it’s probably about the same throw.
