Are 11 speed mechs backwards compatible?

No, thats why I'm flogging it, it came with a 10spd shifter bundle which I'm using - I bet the person who sold that thought it was compatible too

It would work with friction shifting but thats not what I need

Shimano road brake pull ratios 'n' stuff have changed, definitely in 10/11 speed cross-over, maybe more. Check out:
