Did Shimano make an 8 speed IG cassette? I have a 7 speed IG cassette on a bike which was specced as 7 speed but the shifters are SRT 600 8 speed and there is a spacer on the rear hub suggesting 8 speed somewhere along the line. The 7 speed works fine. :?

Re:

What rear hub? The m900/737 have a 'spacer' but it actually an aluminium stop to protect the 737/900 cassettes.

Yes they eventually brought out an 8speed m737-I etc. It is basically ramps/profiling on the rear side of the cogs and still used today.

Re:

And I didn't make it clear that the ramps on the back are the IG, see ramps on the back on a cassette, like any today and you have what was called 'IG' hence the -I on the M737-I for example, M737 being the second 8sp mtb cassette Shimano brought out.

Catalogues are in the Archive.

Dont you mean M739 for 8spd? Or is this not coffee I'm drinking.

Again.

I've just reported you to the mods for drinking the wrong coffee.

M737 first compact drive 11-xx 8speed cassette in 1994, added the rear ramps in 1996(?) for -I aka IG then.
Never had been a 739 cassette.
