Shimano 600 Ultegra

unless the freehub body isn't the original one, it should sound like any other shimano freehub body - so you should hear some decent clicks when it turns. It should be ok after some wd-40 or similar, but can be replaced for not too much money if it's still not right.

My 2p.

I have these hubs build in wheels on my Van Tuyl, mine are super quiet.

I posted on a thread about bike bells etc and this it the bike that a pedestrian did not hear approaching.

Re:

Don't take this the wrong way Richard , but Ilike your rear end

What outer gear cables are they ? Like them 8)

My rear is mine!! (most of the time!)

The outer should be Shimano, I will check the build thread and see if i recorded it but I am betting Shimano.

Had a busy week so only just got this done. Alas my alan key doesn't grip so can't remove the hub body - need some of those hex key thingies I reckon, or just borrow one from my LBS.

The bearings had water ingress which had mixed with the grease and gone horrible so i've sorted that out - just need to get the hub body off and then find a new cassette.

Interesting that you say yours is super quit Richard - i'm not up on Shimano - got 7400 & 7700 groups and both make a noise. If yours is quiet perhaps that's how this Tricolor stuff goes when it's got some decent miles on them?
