The Tricolor stuff...
Just taken possession of some wheels with these hubs (8 speed so 6402). Described as 'a bit gritty' by the seller, and they are - need a damn good service. However, one thing i'm a bit confused about. The freehub doesn't make a clicking sound as it rotates? It rotates fairly freely, but just makes a din, no reassuring clicks as it rotates (like Dura Ace).

Does this seem correct or is there an issue with the freehub?

Thanks in advance.

Re:

Take the freehub off with a 10mm a/k , and spray wd40 in the back of it until it sounds better . Then just smear some grease around the joint and refit . The clicking may not last long , but that's what I've done with mine and they have lasted years .

Cheers Mike - I'll have a go at that. I'm also suspecting they need a complete overhaul so i'll add that to evergrowing list of jobs I have on at the moment

Is it meant to be like that (silent) ? Back when I was working in the bike shop some of the manufacturers were working on noiseless freewheels (there was only one freehub-shimano). Maybe they made one?

That is what I was wondering in the first instance Shaun - I've got DA on the Colnago but no other Shimano until now (just accrued a full tricolor groupset). The DA makes a nice sound, and given every other freewheel or cassette has an audible sound, I assumed that the 600 was supposed to make a sound also. The fact they need a service led me to think that perhaps there was an issue with the freehub?

Re:

Never had a D/A freehub body , maybe the internals are different . I've always used this method on mine , well since '91 and never had issues with them .

I'll get it stripped down and see where I get to, suspect they are full of gunk and need a full de-grease as you say. Hopefully you're advice will do the trick. On the outside they are like new, suspect they've never been serviced though, hence the stickyness to the rotation.
