Shimano 6 speed UG chain removal

Is there a special pin somewhere I'm missing or can you punch out any of them with a chain tool? They all look to have big 'mushroom heads' on the ends! My chain is absolutely clogged with years of oil and needs a bloody good soak !

I don't think 6 speed chains have a special pin. have you checked all the pins, on both sides of the chain, to see if one of them is different?

Hi, yes I've gone round the chain twice on both sides which is what made me wonder although the fact every pin head seems 'mushroomed' got me thinking.
Sounds like I just need to pick any pin then.
Thanks, Shawn.

Any old pin does indeed work. I now have a chain that is as good as new and has the original silver/black finish too ! Did the cassette too with some petrol and some old saved toothbrushes my wife said i'd never use for anything

nice, the 'special brushes for cleaning' rubbish pedaled by Muc-Off et al is cobblers, you just need to change your toothbrush a bit more often and you're away!
