Shimano 200GS Groupo NOS

I upgraded to a 200GS rear mech on my Raleigh Lizard.

Big step up for long cage SIS.

It's just badge engineering it'll be sweet as.

200gs chainsets had bolt on rings - you just had to find the right version.

ah, that must've been the 200gs SE :P

Sorry, but those are defo riveted. Why would they have that cover if there was a removable bolt there? As you can see the nylon cover is one piece, so you'd have to damage it to service the rings :?

I remember the rings being riveted, not replacable...perhaps as a set...hmmm

Yup, if the rings came off at all it was all together. I remember wearing the rings out on one and it was way cheaper to buy a whole new chainset, never mind the weight saving I made just by 'upgrading' to STX

200GS was awful, particularly the brakes.

thanks for the confirmation- these are as nightmarish as I remember them being

LGF was talking about the older thumbshifter version,I had Exage Country on my 1st MTB and that had replaceable chainrings,it was then replaced by this pile of s***!

Honestly! there was a 200GS crankset with bolt on rings. I only found out purly by chance, in a 'looking up Barbie's skirt' sort of way.

I'm bound to come across a set again so I'll show you all (que manic laughter)

It might have been cheap but thanks to the hyperglide it shifted better than any campag or suntour groupo of the time especialy under any kind of power.

That 200GS chainset is a Shimano design classic. It'ws basically the same as the TY20 chainset that was available until fairly recently.
Trade could buy them unpackaged in a box of 20 for as little as £3 per set. Get a bike in with a 122mm axle for a worn out transmission job, fit one of them, a Sedis chain and a screw on 6 speed block. 15 minutes work - £30 parts profit plus labour. Oh happy days! (not a mechanic anymore)

Gentlemen, if any of you said to yourselves ''I'll eat my _____ if 200GS cranksets have replaceable rings''

get your knives and forks ready:
