shed love!

I believe that all spiders have a poisonous bite. Only two species in the UK have the dentistry necessary to penetrate human skin and therefore inflict a bite. They're watching all you though as they have eight eyes!

On the shed front, I'm thinking of having a room in the loft. It will contain a lot of books and fly tying stuff. I'm sure bike tinkering will be sure to follow!

PS If anyone can recommend anyone from personal experience for the above work in the south Staffordshire area, let me know.

I can lay claim to almost 2 sheds; one is technically a passageway with a bit of roof over it but OK for bike storage. Neither is big enough for bike maintenance, that all gets done outdoors (if nice weather) or in my kitchen (if weather dire). The kitchen has a nice low-maintenance quarry tile floor so no dirty carpet issues, plus easy access to sink (for washing grubby hands) and tea-making facilities. Also no "domestic authorities" to answer to re. the presence of bikes in the house, which is one of the few crumbs of comfort to be gained from a solitary existence....

Is a shed not an ok place for a spider to live?

I have a large wasp's bike at the back of my house here every year, as well as at least one nest of Yellowjackets in the ground.

They predate insects.

I have scores of large spiders indoors and outdoors, all do their job keeping the place bug free.

Each to their own I guess.

Spiders live in my house and sheds, and they are welcome, wasps and bees live all around us and that is good too but not in my sheds a few inches from my head.

I only killed one queen and some eggs - I caught the nest as it was being set up.

I got really annoyed when the council killed my nest of mortar bees on our street side wall - they thought it was a wasps nest and had complaints from some git that parks in our street for work - they didn't even live here.

what's a yellowjacket HF?

Yellowjackets are the wasps that live under the ground in my garden.

I have bamboo canes marking their locations so I don't disturb them.
