This is a carbon Shand Oykel - a very rare thing indeed!
This particular bike was Steven Shands own (I bought it direct from him) and has been well looked after.
I have rebuilt the bike with some brand new parts - my intention with the spec was to make sure it had a fully winterised, lower maintenance set up for winter and mud - and with plus tyres you don’t really need suspension for XC, you’ve got plenty of grip and with the right tyre pressures you’ve got comfort too - tbh the rigid set up really suits me (light, super quick and comfortable - what more could you ask for?!.
Currently running 27.5 x 2.8 tyres but is equally happy on 29er wheels - the frame has a flip chip in the rear meaning you can extend the wheelbase and run 29+ (3”) tyres if you wish - it’s an incredibly flexible set up.
The full spec is as follows (new parts are all indicated) -
- Shand Oykel full carbon frame in custom purple and grey fade paintwork with the Shand logo on the down tube and head tube, and a picture of Steven Shand in the paint on the back of the seat tube/BB junction (these are very hard to photograph but look stunning!). There are a few small scuffs and scratches but no knocks or damage to the carbon. The top tube and the graphics to the head tube and down tube are all protected by helitape.

- New lower headset bearing
- New SRAM hubs on WTB 40sti rims
- New Maxxis Rekon 2.8 tyres
- New tubeless setup using MucOff sealant
- New ESI Racers Edge grips
- New Ascend dropper post and lever
- New Prologo saddle
- Shimano XT 11 speed rear mech, shifter and brakes
- Thomson Elite stem
- Specialized bars
This thing is a little rocket - really light and superb handling. With all the new parts you are getting yourself a more or less new bike for a fraction of what this would cost new.
I have two other Shands, one of which I’ve had custom built and I’m a bit of a fan - but I can’t ride them all!!
You definitely won’t see another one!!
