Shallow drops for quill stem

Careful. I had one quill stem that couldn't cope with the tighter curve of one pair of compact drops. Other stems worked fine.

I've got a pair of old 25.4 ITM special from a ladies bike that are quite compact, they're 39cm c-c at the brake mount point. Depth from top of bars to a horizontal surface is approx 16cm

3T Morphe bars have a fairly shallow drop, around 135mm and come in silver, though they're a 26mm (25.8mm) clamp.

'Normal' drops on older bikes seem to be 155mm with a range of widths from 390mm to 420mm. Track drops are 170-180mm deep and as you've noticed, the modern drops are quite a bit shallower.

Thanks for all the replies and offers. Its really useful now knowing the likely depths of older bars, doing a rough measurement my current drops seem to be at least 155-160mm. I've ordered some of the 3T compact bars from planet x, they are nos so won't look out of place on an older bike and I've been offered a used 3T stem to match the diameter.
