Setting up a m731 u brake.

Hi guys,

I am new to u-brakes so do not have a clue how to properly set one up without it rubbing the rim on one side. It's on my Xizang.
How do I centralise it so I don't get the rubbing any more.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Two things.

Lube very thoroughly. If the main securing bolts come out, thorough clean through and reassembly with high quality grease. If bolts won’t come out, and sometimes they just won’t, this means a good soak with GT85 then a blast of air, then a heavy oil dripped in.

Should be a vv small Allen bolt on side with shimano script on - now....BE CAREFUL...this often is full of cack - soak and then pick out all the crap with a needle pick before doing anything, then soak again with GT85 and use a perfect-fitting Allen key to loosen off. This adjusts the balance spring.

That should do it....

Re:

Just realised that what I said was ambiguous:

'...Should be a vv small Allen bolt on side with shimano script on'.

Better to say:

'...on one side of the brake there is usually some shimano script eg Shimano XT, Shimano. Near that script is a small allen bolt. The head will just be proud of the cast surface, but often is covered in grease and cack..'.

Ah...that's better
