Servicing Mavic Cross Link Hubs

Right then - bought a set of cross links, just put them on the bike and found that there is play in the back wheel. Appart from crosslinks being sealed bearings I don't know how easy they are to service.

I just spoke to a guy at the LBS who told me that the easiest thing to do is send them back to the mavic service centre but this sounds like $$$$!!

Any thoughts?

Find a Mavic friendly bike shop.

The preload probably needs adjusting but a special tool is required & it needs to be done whilst clamped in the dropouts.

Easy!

It turned out that the cap on the none drive side was slightly loose - I guess this holds the bearings in place. A quick nip up with some 90 deg neddle nose pliers and we are off and running again.

According to the mechanic at the local bike shp this is pretty standard stuff with mavic rims.
