Servicing Marzocchi XC600's

I'm feeling brave and want to have a go at servicing my XC600's which are currently peeing oil especially when the air pressure is high (which it doesn't hold for long anyway).

I've got the instructions but apparently I need this tool (Tool A). Anybody know what this actually looks like or how it works or if there is an acceptable substitute I could create/make?

Also if (I say 'if' - I mean 'when' :roll: ) I need to change the seals - are these a standard size or are they Marzocchi specific? I.e. could I go to my local 'seal' shop (we all have one nearby) and show them what I have and they'll have something similar I could use (like bearings)?

What does the plug in the stanchion tube look like?

Tool A looks like it may be a threaded tool to screw down on something to give you a handle to pull it with? Or may be wrong handed to screw down to then unscrew? Both of which are easy to 'make' as long as you know what thread it is...

(I'm purely guessing and in fact have only answered as i am avoiding completing my coursework for my IOSH qualification which is due in tomorrow )

I think I have figured it as I took apart my XC51's just now and it's just something that pushes down a widget by using the shraeder thread on it. Found a screwdriver did the job easily enough! You could even use your thumb! To pull up I just used my fingers!

ok, tool a is just a shraeder valve core threader that you can get from halfords. you need to push the valve assembly into the fork tube before you can get at the circlip that holds it in. the valve core holder makes it easier to push down, and then pull back out.

you dont actaully need any of the special tools that marzocchi dealers used to be given, you can seat both seals with a bigish socket.

you should start with 7.5 weight multi grade oil, and see how that feels. if you need it faster go to 5 weight, if you need them to feel slower go to 10. try to get multi grade oil as there is only a small amount of oil in each leg (compared to motorbike forks) so it will perform better for longer.

Thanks! I used my thumb and fingers in the end! Also used my fork pump by removing the retaining clip, then pump air into the fork and *POP* out it comes hey presto!
